China's coking coal imports surged 135% year on year to 4.42 million mt in May, according to data released Tuesday by the Chinese General Administration of Customs.
Imports over January-May totaled 21.22 million mt, up 28% from the same period a year earlier.
Although the May total was down 18% from April, it was above the average monthly import volume for 2016 to date of 4.24 million mt.
