The China Iron & Steel Assn (Cisa) issued a statement mid-week saying that it is"astonished" by the decision by global steel groups to join forces to oppose China's attempt to gain market economy status at the end of 2016.
"The Chinese steel industry, as a victim of trade protectionism, opposes the excuse of [protecting the] steel trade to deny China market economy status," the East Asian trade body added.
Two days later, an executive of the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing (CFLP) warned that Chinese steelmakers should increase their focus on overseas markets rather than cut capacity.
