In a bid to help the domestic steel industry recover from the impact of cheap imports of select products, the directorate general of safeguard of India has extended the duty on hot-rolled flat products of non-alloy and other alloy steel in coils of a width of 600 mm or more until March 2018.
In a notification this Wednesday, the DG safeguard said, increased imports of the product into India have caused serious injury to the domestic producers and it will be in the public interest to impose safeguard duty on the same for a period of two years and six months starting from the date of levy of provisional safeguard duty in September 2015.
