China's crude steel output dipped 2.3 percent year-on-year to 261.42 million tons in the January-April period, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) announced Wednesday.
Production fell 1.3 percent in the year-earlier period.
In April alone, crude steel output gained 0.5 percent year-on-year to 69.42 million tons, compared with a 0.7 percent decline in the same period in 2015.
Steel prices picked up sharply in April, with the domestic steel price index gaining 11.29 points from March to 78.42 and rising 4.43 points from a year earlier, according to the NDRC.
