Domestic prices for US hot-dip galvanized sheet jumped in April and looked to maintain pricing momentum in the near term, according to market sources. Import offers were also higher, but less attractive, because of long delivery times and uncertainty regarding availability and pricing.
Buy-side sources said HDG domestic May and June deliveries had seen base prices push above $600/st with some mini-mill quotes heard as high as $640/st.
One service center source said he had bought minimal HDG tons recently at a $625/st base price. He had seen some offers around $610/st from another mill, but location of order did not make the lower prices work.
A second service center said he had purchased some HDG at a base price of $630/st from a mill for May delivery. He said he needed the material and the delivery time worked for him so he did not attempt to negotiate pricing much lower.
