RIO TINTO BEGINS CHANGES IN TOP MANAGEMENT

Senior executive changes have begun at Rio Tinto ahead of the ascension of Jean-Sebastien Jacques to the company’s top job, with former Pilbara iron ore boss Greg Lilleyman departing after 25 years with the company.
Mr Lilleyman was seen as personally close to outgoing chief executive Sam Walsh, having won promotion to head Rio’s key technology and innovation division in late 2013, only shortly after his former boss in the iron ore division replaced Tom Albanese in the top job.
He is credited with helping spearhead much of the Pilbara innovation push that has kept Rio’s export costs well below its rivals, including its remote operations centre at Perth Airport and the successful introduction of autonomous haul trucks in Rio’s Pilbara mines.
