RIO TINTO OUTPUT OF IRON ORE SURGED 10%

Rio Tinto informed this Tuesday that the fourth-quarter (of 2015) iron ore production surged 10 per cent as the second-largest exporter pushed ahead with a strategy of boosting cargoes into an oversupplied market to increase market share.
Output rose to 87.2 million tonnes, Rio said in a statement. That compares with 79.1 million tonnes in the year-earlier period, and missed a 91 million tonne median estimate among six analysts surveyed.
"We will continue to focus on disciplined management of costs and capital to maximise cash flow generation throughout 2016," chief executive Sam Walsh said in the statement. Full-year output rose 11 percent to 327.6 million tonnes from 295.4 million tonnes in 2014, Rio said. The producer forecasts output in 2016 of 350 million tonnes.
