Brazilian pig iron export prices fell by $10 per tonne this week on new trades in the USA.
Steel First's weekly price assessment for Carajás-origin pig iron exports came to $165-175 per tonne fob on Friday December 4, narrowing last week's price range of $165-185 per tonne fob.
Prices for Minas Gerais-origin material dropped over the same period to $160-165 per tonne fob from $160-175 per tonne fob.
Sources reported that a cargo of pig iron produced at Carajás was sold recently to a US buyer at $165-170 per tonne fob.
Brazilian producers are attempting to to push up prices, and are offering products at $175 per tonne fob.
But increased competition in the USA among different steelmaking raw material suppliers are preventing firms from securing better pricing deals, according to Brazilian sources.
Meanwhile, Minas Gerais-origin pig iron is being offered in the international market at $160-165 per tonne fob, but no deals have been closed at that price this week.
