CLOSED THE BRITAIN'S LAST REMAINING COAL MINE

Britain's last remaining deep coal mine has closed, bringing to an end an important chapter in the nation's industrial history.
Millions of tonnes of coal had been extracted from Kellingley colliery since it began production in North Yorkshire in 1965.
"The Big K", as it became known, was one of Europe's largest mines.
Energy experts say the UK's response to climate change sounded the death knell for a mine which still has tens of millions of tonnes of reserves.
