Indian government is to increase spending on infrastructure to give the country’s steel industry a much needed boost.
The good news for Tata Steel came as the British government rejected calls for tougher measures to protect the UK’s shrinking steel industry.
In a debate in Parliament last night, Business Secretary Sajid Javid insisted tariffs on Chinese steel imports could damage the industry in the long run.
Mr Javid told MPs: "Punitive tariffs and sky-high duties always do seem like a nice easy solution, but the truth is that excessive protectionist trade tariffs simply do not work.
