PILBARA, IN AUSTRALIA, MINING TOWNS ARE "DEVASTATED" BY IRON ORE JOB LOSSES

The president of a Pilbara shire, in Western Australia, says the mining towns of Tom Price and Paraburdoo have been "devastated" by the latest wave of iron ore job cuts.
Rio Tinto will shed around 170 job at its Pilbara iron ore operations in the coming months due to the prolonged iron ore price slump.
Shire of Ashburton shire president Kerry White said the bulk of the job losses were expected to occur at Tom Price and Paraburdoo.
"We're pretty much devastated. Very disturbed, very worried of course," she said.
"The roll-on effect is enormous, for businesses and for people's well being."
